It was super foggy. I was up around 5:30am, got to the race parking around 6:45. Biked 1.5 miles to the transition/race area. Got set up, waited forever, had to pee forever, swam, hit up the porta potty during T1 (who cares if it killed my transition time, I had to!), biked 12 miles, then ran and finished. Photos to come later.

Came home and put stuff away and was feeling fine. Eventually got some food, relaxed. Then crashed- I was SO tired! Took a 2 hour nap from 5-7pm.

Finally got the race results online. I didn’t look for them at the race because it was too crowded. I did really well i the swim part, sucked at the bike (expected) and did pretty well during the run (just about 3 minutes longer than my 5K race time).

Place No. 585 Name ANN MIONE Hometown ABINGTON MA

Final 1:31:48 Div/Tot 26/35 Div F2529

Rank Swim Tran1 Rank Bike Tran2 Rank Run Penalty
386 7:54 3:41 643 46:58 2:23 511 30:54

5K + Triathlon Tomorrow

Did the Hanover 5K today, didn’t run all out as I wanted to save energy for tomorrow’s race. I actually ran with a friend who was doing her first 5K so it was cool. I enjoyed it, I hope she did! Time was around 32 min.

Finally picked up my bike! Yay. It is so much easier to ride than the Huffy I had. Well, easier to pedal…I’m still getting used to the dropped handlebar and lower profile positioning. I think I’ll be faster on it though. I went for a quick 3 miles and did it in 12 min. I gotta say, the Huffy was a good trainer. Maybe I’ll keep training with it sometimes.

Picked up my race registration packet today also. got my number (458). bought some elastic shoelaces so I don’t have to tie mine tomorrow. EVerything’s packed and set. Batteries are charging for the camera tomorrow. Clothes are ready to go. here we go!!……

Waayyy behind

I’m far behind on posting my training and I’m behind on training. I guess I could be concerned about it, but I’m not all that worried.

People write about “tapering” in the week before their event. Instead of doing 5 miles they run 3 miles and so on. Just easing off. Well I don’t taper. I just stop. Not on purpose mind you, but life seemed to have other things to throw at me.

In other news, tomorrow, the day before my triathlon, I will be a) running a 5K race and b) oh…PICKING UP MY BIKE FOR THE TRIATHLON. I really hope I can get comfortable on it with one quick ride tomorrow evening.

I do plan on eventually posting my training sessions, but that won’t be until sometime next week. When I do, I’ll try to date them so they show up correctly here on Tumblr, but the RSS just pumps them out when they get written, even if it’s the incorrect order.

Long time, no update..

I was in New Hampshire last week with limited internet and now I’m in Wyoming on a job interview so I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to report my training progress.

Wed: biked. 30 minutes. I think the distance was 6.2 miles but it’s not verified. Then did a quick 6 minute run (over to a swimming hole, jumped in to cool off, and then honme again).

Thur: ran. about 3.1 miles in 35 minutes. 3 x 3 min intervals.

Fri: never got around to swimming because I was trying to get everything set for the job interview in WY.

Sat: squeezed in a quick bike ride: I don’t know the exact info, it’s on my calendar at home. About 45-50 minutes though, probably 6-7 miles.

Sun: Long run. 50 minutes, 4.84 miles according to my pedometer which may or may not be right. it was a beautiful run along the North Platte River Parkway. I have pics but they won’t load onto this computer right now.

Tried to Swim

Today is about the 4th day in a row of 90+ degree + high humidity weather around here. It would have been a great day to swim no matter where. Unfortunately I don’t have a pool, so I usually use the MDC (state park) swimming pool in the next town. It was recently re-done and it’s pretty nice, and most importantly it’s free.

Today I was all set to swim and cool down. I didn’t have a chance to get over there until about 7:30, but when I did, it was closed with no sign or notices or anything. I wasn’t very pleased.

By the time I got home it was fairly dark. I’m avoiding running because I need to bike or swim train more and want to rest my legs when I can. But it was too dark to bike so I got no exercise today. Boo to that.

Rest

Today was a scheduled rest day. Wow, it was hot. It was just me, Angela, Kevin and Rob.

Then this evening I did a run. It was supposed to be 40 minutes but I did 33 minutes because I finished too quickly. I kind of ran of out places to run and was home. Plus I was super hot because I’m not used to running in this heat.

Time: 33:15

Distance: 3.56

Bike Ride + Run + T-Storm

I was originally going to do my bike ride this morning before it got too hot (today was finally in the 80s, yay!), but I ended up spending the morning mostly being annoyed about my car and dumb mechanics. So I did my ride tonight after seeing the new Narnia movie Prince Caspian (not as good as the first) and shoe shopping (DSW, new flipflops).

I biked just about 7 miles, around Abington and Weymouth. It definitely made it more interesting to go down some roads I’d never been down. The downside of this was that I came out on Rt 18 which is not my favorite road to be on, regardless of my form of transportation. As I was almost home, I heard some thunder so I sped up a little.

When I got back it still hadn’t done anything else and I was about 10 minutes short of my training calendar’s prescribed 50 minutes of riding. So I stuck the bike in the garage and went back out to squeeze in a really short run to practice transition.

I was planning on doing 1/2 mile to Blueberry Circle and back, but just as I was about to run around the actual circle I saw some lightening. I did an about face and really turned up the pace! I got back in about 2 minutes I’d say.

Stats

Bike…

Distance: 6.9, Time: 40:00

Run…

Distance: .5, Time: 5:00

There’s also 49 seconds in there somewhere but I don’t know if they are from the bike or run.

Swim Day + I Finally Get a Bike! (almost)

Today I had a swim training day.

I did 100 yd warmup. Then 8 x 25 drills again with some rotary breathing and working on kicking, arm movement and other stuff with about 10 seconds after every lap (I sometimes do less, sometimes more.) Then a 600 yd endurance swim where I just did 12 laps without resting. I got some rest during that by switching to breast stroke for 2 (non-consecutive) lengths. Then a 100 yd cool down.

Total distance: 1000 yds

Total time (incl. rests): 19:50

Bike!

Mel’s Hyde Park Bike found a frame that fit me. Now he’s going to put some new parts on it for me (wheels, cables, pedals, etc.) and adjust it to fit me better. I’m going to pick it up in about a week and a half.

Running

I was supposed to bike yesterday but didn’t because it was raining, my bike sucks, and my car broke down on the way home from work. all of this combined to equal me skipping a workout.

Today I did running.

Distance: 3.1 miles

Time: 28:28

Ran 3 minute intervals for most of it, i.e. 3 minutes at 5K pace, 3 minutes jog, 3 min 5K, 3 min jog, etc.

Swimming

I did my first official swimming workout based on the triathlong plan I’m using.

10 x 25 (yds) drills: I did different swimming drills like practicing breathing and working on strokes.

4 x 25 Sprint: Just swam as fast as I could for 4 lengths, rest 10 seconds between each one.

2 x 100 Threshold: Swim 100 yards twice at about 90%, rest 30 seconds in between.

Time: 16:40

Off-Day

Today was a rest day for training. The gears are still effed up. I can’t wait to get a new bike.

Also went for a 25 minute walk for my mom. Who walks about 1000 mph.

Tri Clinic in the A.M./ P.M. Run

I went to a Triathlon Clinic put on by C.A.A.N. Sports this morning. C.A.A.N. Sports is Candy Angle and Andy Noble, two profession triathletes. The clinic was held in conjunction with the Cohasset Triathlon, and we were lucky enough to get to swim in the same place that we’ll do it on race day.

The clinic was really helpful and interesting. I learned all about running without socks, how to set up transition areas and how to put on a wetsuit.

I also got to swim in 50 degree water. It’s cold. Well it wasn’t bad where the wetsuit covered me, but my feet, hands and face were really cold. So cold that I didn’t really put my face in all that much. Any semblance of good swimming form I had completely went out the window also.

The good news is that it should warm up enough by next month that I don’t freeze my ass off.

I went to Mel’s Hyde Park Bike shop today to check out a bike, but it was too tall. So no go there. But he might have parts to build one from scratch for me, so he’s going to call on monday or tuesday. If not, I think I’m gonna suck it up and buy one off Amazon.

Went for a run today also…..

Tempo run, race speed.

Time: 27:09

Distance: 3.1

I think after the Cohasset Tri my goal will be do run a sub-25 5k.

Just keep swimming...

I went for a quick swim tonight after dinner. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t done it for years, or if it’s because I feel like an idiot in the old bike helmet I have or on the old bike I’m riding. Or maybe it’s because the bike I’m riding is so slow and heavy. If anyone has a bike they want to just let me try riding for 5 minutes so I can figure out how messed up my bike is let me know!

Distance: 5.3 miles

Time: 30:09

Yeah, I ride really slow.

Another day, another 5K.27:35

Another day, another 5K.

27:35

Photo
